Answer:
We believe that God is the creator and ruler over all the universe. We believe that a relationship with Him, that honors Him, is the ultimate goal! Now, let me give you the bad news...then I will give you the good news:
The problem is, God is Holy, and we are not! Now, Holy means, for lack of a better word, "clean." -And since we are "un-clean," it is impossible to be with God...not His fault, but ours. You see, there is this thing in our life, commonly known as sin. When we choose to make bad decisions, or disobey, even once, we become "un-clean," and can't be with God.
Now, God didn't like this....not at all. Because he loves us more than anything. He loves us more than we love ourselves. He loves us more than anyone else in our life. -AND, it's unconditional love. We don't have to do anything to "earn it." You see, our worth never changes in His eyes...no matter how much we screw up!
It's kind of like this: If you were to offer a $100 bill to someone, would they take it? -Sure. Now, if you were to take that $100 bill and put it in the mud, step on it, maybe even spit on it....would that person still take it? -Sure, it's still worth $100, isn't it? It just needs to be cleaned up a bit....
That's the good news piece! God loved us this much that He sent His son, Jesus, to us. Now, Jesus was perfect....sinless. He taught us, through words and actions, how to live our lives....how God would have us live our lives! But, believe it or not, that was not his main purpose on Earth. He came to die! Can you believe that! He came to sacrifice his life for us! It was that sacrifice that cleaned us up, made us perfect, so that we can have that relationship with God. -And so that we can have life....not just life eternal, but a life with purpose and meaning...not necessarily one with riches, fame, and glory (that stuff should be for God)...but one where we can have true happiness. Happiness for me comes from fulfilling my purpose!
Now, the key here, is that we need to believe. That doesn't mean that we are not allowed to struggle with doubts, we all do that! We just simply need to pray a simple prayer, something like:
"Jesus, I thank you for the love you have for me. I thank you for the sacrifice you made for me. I believe it. I ask that you would now come into my life. That you would make your home in me. That you would transform me into a follower of you. I love you...and I want to live for you. And it is in your holy name that I pray." -Amen
Now, how do we know all of that is truth? ...you may have heard it in Sunday School: The Bible tells me so! We believe that the Bible is 100% truth. We believe that it is God's word to us. One of His primary ways of communicating with us. It is a history book, instruction manual, and a place to find the answers to all of your questions...
